Wii Active or Wii Fit: Which Is Right For You?

One of the largest players in the gaming system software development industry has locked horns in a competitive battle with the makers behind Nintendo’s Wii Fit technology. In May of 2009, a new “game” called wii active effectively ran, jumped, and lunged its way into the Wii fitness game market. There product will be in direct competition with Nintendo’s extremely popular Wii Fit. EA’s (Electronic Arts) Wii Active aims to target women who want to participate in a variety of fitness games, all from the comfort of their own home. Some experts believe this new product will upstage Wii Fit for a number of reasons:

1. The asking price will be $30 less than Wii Fit’s current asking price of $90.

2. There are no balance boards included in the exercise program. Some believe that the balance board that the Wii Fit uses in some of its exercise routines can pose as a hindrance for the person doing the workout routine if the user is a fitness beginner.

3. Instead of balance boards, Wii Active uses power bands and nunchuk/controller pockets as their two main accessories for the entire program. These are much easier to use, and less expensive!

4. There are more than 20 exercises and motivational challenges to get you started with your fitness goals.

5. Wii Active virtual personal trainers in the program were patterned after some of the biggest fitness gurus in the industry to make the entire fitness program more believable.

Many experts believe that if EA can figure out a way to accurately gauge the users body fat percentage, Wii Fit could have some real competition on its hands. Wii Active has real potential to become a major contender in the Wii fitness game market.
